Discussion Forum on May 13: Transforming Learning and Teaching

"Transforming Learning and Teaching in College and Beyond" Discussion Forum

The Loyola Notre Dame Library, with coordination by the USMAI Library Consortium, will host a discussion forum on May 13th, 2014, from 10:30 AM -12:30 PM in the Loyola Notre Dame Library's Ridley Auditorium. The invitational forum, "Transforming Learning and Teaching In College and Beyond," will provide perspectives from two local leaders in the transformation of teaching and learning:

M.J. Bishop, Ed.D., is the Director of the University System of Maryland's Center for Innovation and Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CIELT), which encourages and coordinates innovative practices among the 12 campuses of the state university system. She will discuss current CIELT initiatives and system-wide academic transformation efforts, and contextualize these with observations on external forces and opportunities for new partnerships in Maryland.

Aaron Presnall, Ph.D., is President of the Jefferson Institute, an independent research and education institute. He will provide details on some of the institute's work building and deploying digital tools for integration with research and education systems, including an overview of the new Advanced Distributed Learning initiative with multiple funders and partners.

Each presenter will speak for approximately 30 minutes, followed by approximately 30 minutes for questions after each presentation. Attendees will be encouraged to ask questions and think about potential ways that multi-institutional stakeholders such as libraries, departments, deans and administrators, faculty , and external partners can work together and attract support to accelerate teaching and learning transformations in Maryland’s colleges and universities.
